OBJECTIVES OF GR CLUB

Just to remind you of the objectives of our club:
1. Improve the GOLDEN RETRIEVER breed, encourage its breeding, contribute to its promotion and develop its use.
2. Establish and diffuse comments of standard for the intention of judges and confirmation experts.
3. Hold a list of recommended breeders.
4. Determine tests destined to contribute to improve the breed.
5. Establish, organise and participate in shows, exams in conformity with the regulating body of Mauritius.
6. Assume a role adviser for inscriptions in the official register book.
7. Verify pedigree of suspicious nature.
8. Favour relations between members, help and guide them in breeding.
9. Do anything necessary to promote the GOLDEN RETRIEVER breed.

With pedigree dog theft on the rise, we also encourage people not to purchase dogs from breeders not registered by the FCC.

ANNUAL FEES

Membership is up for renewal in December however, if you have become a member of the club but have not yet registered, or paid your fees for 2010, please see attached form to complete and post off with a cheque to the order of “Golden Retriever Club”. The membership fee is Rs 250 and the annual fee is Rs 200. This is nominal and goes to the administration costs of running the club. We have realized that the costs of running the club are higher than we expected as we need to pay for our secretary administrative fees and our annual membership to the FCC. For this reason, the annual fee will be going up to Rs 500 for 2011.

MICRO CHIP & PEDIGREE NUMBERS
If your dogs were micro-chipped, please if you have not already done so, send this to us for our records. You should receive a pedigree number in the post shortly. Please send this to us too.

LITTERS & MATINGS
Any mating MUST be certified with the FCC within one month. Please let us know too if you have mated your dog and notify us of any litters. We would love to assist you in finding good homes for them. In order to achieve the objectives of the club, we would also suggest that any puppies that are sold are done so on the condition that the new owners will a) Join the club and b) Get the puppy pedigree confirmation at the Annual Dog Show and c) Bring the dog to at least one Dog show. Please see the FCC site for more information on this and please do support us and them! We can also help you to provide information for the new owners.

If you would like to mate your dog, please contact us and we will try to help you to find the best “match”, always bearing in mind our objective for the good of the breed. According to the judges, inbreeding can be quite effective ONLY if there are NO unwanted traits in either parent. However, inbreeding can weaken the breed if there are congenital characteristics perhaps not noticeable in the sire or/and dam. We therefore would not recommend that inbreeding is practiced. All the sensitivities of the breed, e.g. skin sensitivities, hip dysplasia, eye problems, behavioral problems etc could be exasperated by the coming together of recessive genes in dogs too closely related.
